Does Age Affect Your Candidacy For Liposuction?

Liposuction is a re sculpting of your body parts. It works best on young, healthy people who have normal weight and young skin which means firm and flexible. Liposuction is for those parts of your body that have stubborn pockets of fat that won’t leave regardless of what exercise program you work out on or what diet you try. Liposuction is used to treat all parts of the body. Commonly, the liposuction surgery is used on the abdomen, hips, thighs, abdomen, inner knees, calves, ankles, neck, cheeks, chin, buttocks, under upper arms, breasts, waist flanks, often called love handles and the back.

The area that you want to treat with liposuction could also mitigate the age requirement. But, usually, old saggy skin is not a good risk for liposuction. Liposuction is not recommended for older people because of the aging condition of the skin, such as loose skin and sagging or wrinkly skin which is a result of aging. If the skin is not flexible enough to fit the surgeon’s reshaping of your body part after liposuction, the results might not be what you were expecting. The skin in liposuction is not cut or tightened. The fatty layers under the skin are suctioned out and your skin will have to shrink back to fit the new shape.

In spite of this main consideration, age is not a deterrent factor just in itself. What is more of a deterrent to liposuction than age are health issues. The most significant health issue that precludes liposuction is having more than 130% of your normal weight. In other words, if you are morbidly obese, you are not a candidate for liposuction cosmetic surgery. Other health problems that would eliminate you from consideration for liposuction are diabetes, heat disease, high blood pressure, lung disease or other serious medical conditions.
