“3RD DAN is indie teen pop that makes
you put it back on after it is finished” - Fly Magazine
OTW
Having supported the likes of Alterkicks, Willy Mason and Electric
Six, 3RD DAN have built up a steady underground following since
signing with Honey Records in mid 2004. Promoting new single ‘Fall
From Grace’ (released 24th October) with their second extensive
tour of the UK through October/November 2005, it’s about
time for the rest of the country to catch on to the youthful blowout
of exciting rock, pop and noise that is 3RD DAN.
“3RD DAN deceive you into thinking they are mellow and chilled
out, before delivering one hell of a kick” - Andrea Davies,
Inaudible magazine
Debut EP ‘Guess I Wanted More’ was released on 11th
July 2005, featuring four songs that define the many facets of
the 3RD DAN sound: title track ‘Guess I Wanted More’
combines a downbeat Farisa organ intro, with a big chorus that
lifts the tune up towards a spirited climax; ‘White Line’
showcases the band’s reflective side, with slow and pensive
tones in perfect harmony; ‘3 Weeks’ then changes the
pace into blisteringly smart, toe-tapping, catchy rock n’
roll laced with feedback; while ‘Move On’ provides
a poignant end to the EP with it’s unrelenting climaxes
and crescendos.
“this EP is rammed with undeniably fantastic tunes. “Guess
I Wanted More” is full of leftfield honks from an organ,
beautiful vocal lines and neat guitar flourishes, all married
to an unforgettable series of chorus phrases and superb hooklines”
- Manchestermusic.co.uk
Fall From Grace shows yet another side to 3RD DAN – this
time featuring dynamics which chop and change throughout, and
vocals that range from melodic whispers to tortuous squeals; while
B-side ‘Shoebox’ contains some of the most heartfelt
and mature lyrics the band have written.
With an explosive live set that has firmly established them as
‘Blow Out ‘ favourites in both London and their Manchester
base, highlighting a burgeoning cache of material; it seems certain
that the promise and potential of their early recordings will
be realised on a debut album scheduled for an early 2006 release.
